On-site activities

There is a wealth of activities and things to do on-site at Heyswood.  groups may book timed session to use the aeroball, grass sledges,  zip wire, low ropes and swimming pool.  Many of the other equipment and activities are free of charge.

Aeroball

Aeroball

A mixture between trampolining and basketball.  There are four separate trampolines (one person per pod) in close connection surrounded by netting.  Each section has its own goal. Participants bounce on a trampoline bed while attempting to score through their opponent’s basket with a soft ball.

Grass Sledges

Experience the fun of tobogganing, but without the snow using our grass sledges.  We provide you with 8 sledges & helmets which should be worn when riding the sledges.

Low Ropes

Low ropes

Participants must be supervised by a competent person who has completed a Familiarisation Course at Heyswood

Our exciting low ropes course has 10 elements and is designed for individuals from Brownies to adults to learn about themselves, others and how they work with others by working through challenges together in a team.  Participants should be allowed to plan as a group, make mistakes, have a chance to correct them and enjoy their successes with little involvement from the leader. Helmets are provided and must be worn by all participants.

Water Slide

Water is available from the nearby tap & hosepipe

Double 40m zip wire

Lots of fun to be had zipping down our zip wire! Race with your partner down the double zipwire. Helmets should be worn and are provided.

Pizza Oven

Groups can hire the oven either during a midday or an evening session.  Heyswood supply all the cooking equipment and some firewood. All food ingredients are to be supplied by your group.

A great alternative way to cook while camping / staying in one of the buildings or on a day visit with your group.

Open air Swimming Pool

Open air Swimming pool

A qualified lifeguard must be present for the pool to be used.  If you do not have a life-saver please email us and we will put you in touch with possible lifesavers.

Conditions of use

Soft Archery

A safe and fun way to introduce the joy of archery in guiding. Using soft arrows, Arrows Archery participants learn new skills in a safe environment, working on building strength and coordination while having fun doing something a little out of the ordinary.

Activities available to all groups at no additional charge

Campfire Circle

The main campfire circle is located at the bottom of the site in the woods.  It has a large seating area of logs.  Although free to use, we recommend booking the campfire to avoid clashing with other groups.

Heyswood Shop

The onsite shop is ‘self service’ and has souvenirs, pens, pencils, notebooks, as well as Heyswood badges, County Standard badges, etc. available to purchase.

Playground

Suitable for Rainbows and Brownies the playground has a soft play surface, climbing frame, balance beams and a new basket swing.

Giant games & team challenges

Available free of charge, these include parachute, jenga, four-in-a-row, noughts & crosses, and circus equipment.

Sports

We have outdoor table tennis, netball posts, rounders set, croquet set, badminton net and posts, football posts (bring own football).  There is also a mixed box of games equipment including targets, frisbees, hula hoops and balls.

Nature activities

Bats, birds – ask for the RSPB bird activity pack or book our pond dipping equipment to discover the creatures hiding in our pond.

Challenge trails

Two photo challenge packs are available for Brownie & Guides sections and involve finding the location of images around the site.  The ‘Gnome trail’ is  suited to Rainbows.

Orienteering

Orienteering

There are orienteering markers around the campsite. This gives the girls the opportunity to learn map skills and work in a team.  Using a compass & a map you can follow a route to find different markers.  We have a total of 4 routes; short, medium, long, star shape
